20-year-old Neeraj Rathore alias Pandit, a resident of J J Colony in Dwarka sector 7, was arrested for murdering Raghubir aka Rahis, who worked as a casual painter, on the night of April 21 after consuming alcohol, a senior police official said.

Raghubir's body was found in the wee hours of April 22 from a vacant plot in the colony. Face of the victim had been brutally smashed with some heavy object.

During investigation, police came to know that the deceased was last seen with Rathore. He was detained and questioned.

Rathore confessed his crime and said after consuming alcohol he wanted to take the belongings like mobile phone and others from the deceased.

"First he pushed the deceased and then physically assaulted him with a heavy stone. Raghubir fell on the ground and became unconscious. Afraid of getting caught later, Rathore assaulted him several times with the heavy cement block. Once he was certain that Raghubir was dead, he fled," said Anil Kumar Ojha, ACP South West district said.

Neeraj is an alcoholic and regularly commits petty offences for his daily requirement of alcohol, he said. PTI SMJ
