Man held for raping teenager

A man was arrested for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl on the pretext of providing her a job here, police said today.

Nabin Sohanlal Bedi, 24, landed in the police net yesterday following a complaint filed by the victim. The incident took place on July 28, police said.

"The victim told the police that the accused called her up on July 27 and informed her about a job vacancy. The next day, he met her at a place in Kopri to discuss about the job opportunity," said Inspector S D Korde of the Kopri police station in Thane (East).

"After meeting her, he offered her a drink laced with sedatives and took her to Sabegaon in Diva East to a shop in a rickshaw and raped her. After committing the crime, the man took out the SIM card from her mobile and fled," he said.
 

She returned home and narrated the incident to her kin, following which a complaint was filed.

Police booked the accused under relevant provisions of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
