Man held for roughing up policemen

A transporter who was reprimanded for not following traffic rules allegedly manhandled at least four policemen and abused an officer here, police said today.

Niteen Chotu Qureshi was arrested after the incident yesterday and today produced before a local Magistrate who remanded him in police custody for two days.

The 35-year-old started arguing with the policemen when he was asked to move his parked bus which was blocking the flow of vehicles in Kopri area. He was also asked to present his licence and registration papers.

Instead of following the instructions, Qureshi got unruly and manhandled at least four policemen and abused an officer present at the site, police said.
 

He also smashed a glass window of a local police outpost, where he was taken to complete case registration formalities.

Qureshi was booked under relevant sections of the IPC and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, the police added.
