A 23-year-old mobile shop owner was arrested for allegedly indulging in piracy of recently released Marathi movie 'Sairat', police said today.

"The accused, identified as Kasim Dastgir Shaikh, was yesterday arrested for selling pirated copy of the movie," Swargate police station, Assistant Police Inspector S A Kenjale said.

National award-winning filmmaker and 'Sairat' director Nagraj Manjule had yesterday alleged that a copy of the film had been leaked and it is being circulated through pirated CDs and other media.

"Acting on a tip-off from a private company which keeps a vigil on piracy activities, we conducted a raid on the specific mobile shop and found the accused was selling the pirated copy of the film by transferring the file in pen drives and mobile phones of customers," he said.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Copyright Act, he said, adding further investigation is on.
