A 24-year-old man of Sadakpur village in Odisha's Jajpur district was today arrested on charges of sexually exploiting a girl of the same village on the pretext of marriage.
Police arrested the accused after the victim, who is four months pregnant, filed a complaint at Kuakhia police station on Monday night. The accused has been identified as Suman Dalei.
"Both the victim and the accused are of the same village. They fell in love and later the accused developed a physical relation with her on the pretext of marrying her. The youth allegedly impregnated the complainant following which she insisted on marriage. But he refused to marry her," said Ashis Kumar Sahoo, inspector-in-charge of Kuakhia police station.
Police said the accused confessed during interrogation that he had established a sexual relationship with the girl.
The accused was sent to the local court and later remanded to judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected.
