Man held for smuggling gold at airport

A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle gold at the international airport here.

The passenger was intercepted by Customs officials after his arrival from Bangkok here yesterday.

"On detailed examination of his baggage and personal search, six cut pieces of gold bars weighing 2.6 kg valued at Rs 64.87 lakh were recovered," a press release issued today by the Customs said.

The gold bars have been seized and the passenger has been arrested, it said.
