A man has been arrested here for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold valued at about Rs 49 lakh.
The passenger was intercepted by customs officials after his arrival at the IGIA here yesterday from Dubai. "He attempted to take the gold weighing two kilograms clandestinely out of the airport without declaring it. The gold, which was concealed in a paper bag, was seized," a press release issued today by the customs said.
The value of the gold is assessed at Rs 48.84 lakh, it said adding that the passenger was arrested.
