Man held for smuggling gold worth Rs 68 lakh at airport

A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle gold into the country by hiding it in a microwave oven at international airport here.

The passenger was intercepted by customs officials after he arrived here from Dubai on Sunday morning.

"On detailed examination of his baggage and personal search, gold wire in coil from total weighing 2.8 kgs, valued at Rs 68 lakh was recovered concealed in transformer of microwave oven of Samsung brand," a press release issued today by the customs said.

The recovered gold was seized and the passenger has been arrested, it said.
