Man held for stabbing vegetable vendor who opposed molestation

A man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing and injuring a vegetable vendor who protested when he was "trying" to molest a woman in east Delhi's Kalyanpuri area, police said today.

The incident took place about 4:30 PM on December 20 in the Mangal Bazar area where Sunil Gupta was stabbed with a knife.

"Sunil Gupta had rebuked Satish, who was trying to molest a woman buying vegetables from Satish's cart. The victim was stabbed in the abdomen," said DCP(East) Omvir Singh.

The injured was admitted in LBS Hospital from where he was referred to the GTB Hospital where he is still under treatment, he said.
 

He said the accused is a habitual offender.

"Several raids were conducted at probable hideouts of the accused including Sonipat, Haryana. Satish was arrested on the intervening night December 22 and 23 around 3 AM in front of a shop in Mayur Vihar Phase-II market, where he used to work as a sweeper," said the officer.

The knife used to commit the offence was also recovered.
