Man held for stealing gold ornaments

City Police today arrested a goldsmith and recovered 2.44 kg gold ornaments from his possession, which he had allegedly stolen from a workshop here.

Based on information, Charminar police nabbed Vinod Varma, alias Tippu, when he was moving near a railway station at Uppuguda along with the stolen gold ornaments and recovered the valuables from his possession.

After interrogation, Varma said he is a goldsmith working at a workshop at Mama Jameela Phatak here and due to financial problems he decided to steal gold ornaments from his place of work, police said.

On February 11, his owner brought 2.44 kgs of gold ornaments for polishing work and went out of the shop.
 

Subsequently, Varma stole the ornaments from the shop and went to Kolkata, they said.
