Man held for trying to smuggle gold, other items worth Rs 50L

A man has been arrested at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) here for allegedly trying to smuggle gold, electronic gadgets and other items, all worth Rs 50 lakh.

Based on specific information, customs officers of Air Intelligence Unit at RGIA seized 661 grams of gold, 5.2 kg saffron (Iranian origin), 24 IPhone7, 4 Apple iPad Pro, 30 ipod Touch, 2,880 sticks of cigarettes, from the passenger who arrived at the airport here from Dubai yesterday.

"The passenger was passing through the green channel. He was intercepted and interrogated. He has admitted the offence. The total value of the seized gold, electronic gadgets and other items is worth Rs 50 lakh," Banky Behari Agrawal, Principal Commissioner said.
 

The accused was produced before a local court today. Further investigation is underway.
