Man held for trying to smuggle gold worth Rs 20 lakh

A man was arrested today while he was allegedly trying to smuggle 700 grams of gold worth Rs 20 lakh at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad here, customs officials said.

Customs officials intercepted Quazi Eajaz Ahmed of Honnavar, a port town in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, after he arrived at the airport from Muscat by an Oman Airways flight and seized 700 grams of gold from him.

The passenger was subsequently arrested, a Customs release said.
