Man held for vandalising printing press in Sikkim

A person claiming to be a 'youth leader' of the ruling SDF, was arrested today for allegedly vandalising printing press of two local newspapers and injuring its workers here in Daragaon, Tadong, police said.

The man identified as Phurba Sangay Sherpa (38), arrived in a jeep, brandishing a Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) flag, today in the wee hours at Sikkim Express and Himali Bela printing press and vandalised vehicles before attacking two workers with a knife, they said.

The accused was then overpowered by other workers who caught him and handed over to the patrol team of Tadong police outpost, police said, adding, that the jeep and the knife have been seized.
 

Sikkim Express' publishing editor Amit Patro has lodged an FIR in this connection at the Sadar Police Station, they said.
