Delhi Police arrested a 32-year-old man and today claimed to have solved the murder case of gangster Mohammad Khalil in Tilak Bazar on May 29.

Mobin alias Shavez alias Babu, a resident of Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested near Faridabad Bus Stand after police received a tip off about his movements.

"Initially, one Rishi Gupta was arrested in this case by the Crime Branch. Gupta admitted to having arranged a vehicle for his friend Mobin and to have him driven him to Lahori Gate. Mobin then proceeded to Tilak Bazar and fired several rounds on Khalil," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Sindhu Pillai.

Later, Khalil Ahmad succumbed to his injuries at St. Stephen's hospital.

During interrogation, police claimed Mobin said he had known Khalil for the last 15 years and had got close to him while serving his sentence in Tihar Jail.

After release on bail, Mobin started working in the office of Khalil at Tilak Bazar but was removed from job 2-3 months ago because of some differences between the two. Mobin had also become suspicious that Khalil was trying to get him killed through his gang members, said Pillai.

Due to these reasons, Mobin was in search of an opportunity to kill Khalil. Finally on May 29 at about 11.15 PM, he struck just in front of Khalil's office in Tilak Bazar.

Mobin is already wanted in several cases of dacoity, robbery, theft, murder and the Arms Act in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, police said.
