Delhi Police has arrested a 23-year-old man here for allegedly killing his distant relative with whom he had a relationship, police said on Tuesday.

The accused Heera Singh hails from Uttarakhand's Nainital district, they said.

Both Singh and the woman (23) worked as pharmacists in Delhi and had plans to get married. However, their families were against it, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Atul Kumar Thakur.

On February 5 at 8.15 pm, Singh went to the woman's residence at Madangir and had a fight with her. But later, the two left for Rampur in Uttar Pradesh at 10 pm, the officer said citing the accused's statement during interrogation.

On reaching Rampur around 4 am, the two again had a heated argument and Singh hit the woman with a brick six to seven times. The woman's body was later recovered during the day, the DCP said.

On Monday, police traced Singh's location and arrested him, the officer added.
