Man held on graft charge

A person, acting as a middleman for a patrolling officer of excise department, was today arrested by the anti-corruption bureau for allegedly extorting Rs 56,000 in Rajasthan's Udaipur district.

Patrolling Officer Mahipal Singh was allegedly demanding Rs 28,000 from complainant Harish Kalal, who owns six liquor shops and wanted him to pay Rs 56,000 for two months.

After verification of the complaint, a trap was laid and the middleman was caught by the ACB team when he was allegedly taking money today at a checkpost in the presence of Mahipal, who is posted in Gogunda in Udaipur, IG ACB Smita Srivastava said here.
