A man who had sexually assaulted several minor girls in Govind Puri area of South East Delhi has been arrested, police said today.

Azad Khan (27), a native of Bihar, was wanted in at least three cases of sexual assault on minor girls in the area in the last couple of months, said Deputy Commissioner (South-East Delhi) P Karunakaran.

He used to trap the girls by threatening them of having them beaten up by their parents on one pretext or the other. He then used to take them to a nearby jungle and then sexually assault them, he said.

Three such cases were reported in June, September and December at the Govind Puri police station. In all the above cases, the victim girls were abducted by the accused from different parts of Tughlakabad Extension to sexually assault them in the nearby forest area of Tughlakabad Fort, police said.

"During the course of investigation of these cases, the portrait of the accused was made and given to the beat staff to develop further information over the suspect," they said.

After nearly seven months of probe, Azad was nabbed yesterday, police said.

Azad had been working as unskilled labourer for last few years in Delhi-NCR. He is married and lives with his wife in Tughlakabad Extension area, the official said.
