A 36-year-old man has been detained
under Goondas Act for committing fraud to the tune of Rs 73 lakh in three different cases, police today said.
Based on a complaint, police detained Karthik for allegedly cheating one Arasu here of Rs 50 lakh, a police release said.
Arasu had given the money to Karthik for constructing a temple but he failed to do so and did not return the amount, police said.
Investigations revealed that Karthik had cheated two persons of Rs 23 lakh.
Chennai City Police Commissioner S George issued orders to detain Karthik under Goondas Act for a year, police said, adding, he has been lodged in Puzhal prison.
