Man held with foreign currency worth Rs 29 lakh

A man has been arrested for allegedly carrying foreign currency worth Rs 29 lakh at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here.

The accused was yesterday intercepted by the customs officials when he was trying to board a flight to Kabul. On personal and baggage search, currencies i.E. USD 39,900 (about Rs 26.15 lakh) and Rs 2.79 lakh were recovered, a press release issued by the customs said today.

The currencies were seized and the accused has been arrested, it said.

As per rules, there is no cap on carrying foreign currency by an Indian national provided he gives a valid proof of its legal source.
