A man possessing sophisticated telecom equipment was today arrested by security forces from Rahimpur, a village near Indo-Bangla border in Sonamura sub-division of Sipahijala district, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of state police, BSF and BSNL officials raided the house of one Abdul Chhalam this morning and arrested him, Superintendent of Police (Control) Pradip De told reporters.
Several high-end equipment including mobile signal booster, illegal call diverting systems and mobile antenna were recovered from his possession.
Kulwinder Kumar, Deputy Director General of North East, Department of Telecommunication, Government of India had filed an FIR at Kalamchoura police station yesterday saying Abdul Chhalam and his two sons were possessing the illegal equipment.
However, the two sons of the accused fled during the raid.
Police is investigating the case and trying to find out if he had any terror links.
