Man, his mother arrested for torturing wife in Guj's Ahmedabad

A man, along with his mother, was today arrested for allegedly subjecting his wife to physical and mental torture, police said.

A video of the victim being beaten by the accused, Tushar Trivedi and his mother Chanda, went viral on social media.

The video footage shows the victim, along with a four-year-old child, emerging from their house, after an argument with Chanda, and then getting assaulted by her husband.

Police said the victim today lodged a complaint with Meghaninagar police here, under sections 498A (husband subjecting woman to cruelty), 294 (obscene act in public) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC, following which the man and his mother were arrested.

 

"It is a matter of domestic violence with the woman being subjected to repeated torture at the hands of her mother-in-law and husband. We registered an offence and arrested both of them," said G Division Assistant Commissioner of Police J P Raol.

The victim told a local television channel that the two accused were forcing her to "meet" a government official in Gandhinagar, identified by her as Shuklaji.

"They force me to do what they want and when I resist, they torture me," she told the channel.

Lilaben Ankolia, chairperson of the Gujarat State Commission for Women said that the commission had taken note of the video and had asked police to provide justice to the victim.

"As soon as I saw the video, I contacted the police and asked them to arrest the accused at the earliest," Ankolia said.
