A court here today sentenced a man to ten years imprisonment for sending four types of banned drug to the United States along with export cargo some eight years ago.

Delivering the judgement in the case filed by the Narcotics Control Bureau, Essential Commodities (EC) Court Judge Chandrasekhar also imposed a fine of Rs five lakh on Ramakrishnan.

The prosecution case was that Ramakrishnan used to take online orders for the tablets, which were banned in the US, and had been sending them along with regular cargo exports between 2004 and 2006.

The racket came to light when US authorities found the tablets during a check of the consignment sent from here and consignee Seethapathi was arrested in 2006.
