Man injured in bear attack in J-K

A 22-year-old man was injured after he was attacked by a bear in the upper reaches of the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The victim, Ranjeet Kumar, was yesterday attacked by a bear in a stream near his house in the Chatran-Udyanpur village in the Doda district when he had gone to the area with his cattle, a police officer said.

The locals reached the spot and rescued Ranjeet on hearing his cries, he said adding that the victim received serious injuries in the attack.

He was rushed to the district hospital in a serious condition and was later referred to Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu, the officer said.
 

The man-animal conflict in the area has increased in the past eight months with 25 people being injured in attacks by bear and leopard in this part of the Chenab Valley, police said.
