District Judge O P Gupta sentenced trader Anil Kumar of West Delhi for hitting cottage cheese supplier Bhagesh Chaudhary of Vikaspuri on his head and grievously wounding him.

The court sentenced him after convicting for attempting to commit culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

"I think that ends of justice would be met by sentencing the convict to imprisonment for 2 years," the court said.

The prosecution case dated back to September 15, 2010, when Chaudhary demanded from Kumar Rs 15,000 that he owed to the former for the cottage cheese supplied to him (Kumar).

In his complaint to the police, Chaudhary said as he demanded the money, Kumar and two of his friends abused him and attacked him with a rod.

The prosecution had sought stringent punishment for the convict, while the defence counsel had sought leniency saying the convict was merely 21-year-old at the time of the incident and has no criminal antecedents.
