Man kidnapped for failing to repay debt

A 32-year-old man was abducted by a gang of six from Akalsar road in the city today for allegedly failing to repay the debt he had borrowed, police said.

The victim identified as Manjeet Singh of Kapure village in the district was kidnapped by the suspects and later beaten up for three hours before being thrown close to his residence.

Singh was hospitalized, police said adding a case had been registered in this connection.

Preliminary investigations showed that one of the accused had demanded the return of his money loaned to Singh, police said.

However, when Singh failed to return his money, they kidnapped him, police added.
 

The incident occurred when Singh arrived at a private hospital on Akalsar road to enquire the health of his friend Jugraj Singh, police said.

Police have identified three members of the gang as Puran, Jagna and Vicky.

The others are yet to be identified, they said adding that no arrests have been made so far.
