Man killed after being hit by debris at under-construction railway tunnel in J-K

A man working with a railway construction company was killed on Monday after being hit by loose debris at an under-construction tunnel in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

Parkash Chand, a resident of Danda Anj village in Himachal Pradesh, was on duty when he came under the debris of rocks inside the tunnel in Kari area, following which he was immediately rushed to the sub-district hospital Banihal, a police official said.

He said Chand died on way to the hospital, where he was referred for a specialised treatment.

In another incident, the official said 27-year-old Umar Shafi of Anantnag died on the spot and his another associate Adil Ahmad suffered serious injuries when their truck skidded off the road and fell into 200 feet deep gorge near Mehar along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway Monday afternoon.

 

The body of the deceased was recovered, while the injured was shifted to a hospital, he said.
