In a suspected case of honour killing, a 26-year-old man was shot dead by his brother-in-law in north east Delhi, following which the accused was arrested from Ghaziabad, the police said today.

Additional DCP (north east Delhi) RP Meena said the incident was reported around 2 pm on Saturday.

Atif was shot in the head allegedly by his brother-in-law Akram at Meet Nagar. The victim was rushed to GTB hospital where he died during treatment, the officer said.

Akram (20) was arrested yesterday from Dabur Talab at Loni in Ghaziabad, and a country-made pistol allegedly used in the crime was seized from him, Meena said.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed that his younger sister had married Atif against the will of his family, the police officer said, adding, "Akram along with his father Rahisuddin hatched a plan to eliminate Atif."

"He invited his sister and Atif to settle the issue and carried a loaded pistol there. When Atif and his wife reached at the designated place for the meeting, after some brief talks, Akram shot Atif and fled from the spot," Meena said.
