Man killed by mob while trying to rescue abducted relative

A 33-year-old man was killed by a mob when he was accompanying a police party to rescue an abducted woman relative in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, police said today.

Bashir Ahmad Khan, a resident of Lari Aangan village of Rafiabad, was accompanying the police party to Paranpeela village of Uri yesterday when a mob from the side of the alleged kidnapper pelted stones upon them, a police spokesman said.

"In the ensuing clashes some policemen and Khan got injured. He was taken hostage and attacked with stones and lathis. He was later thrown into a nearby Nallah (stream) and died," the spokesman said.
 

The spokesman said one Mushtaq Ahmad Khan of Kutroo- Nadihal village of Rafiabad had lodged a complaint stating that his wife, a mother of two, was kidnapped by one Ashiq Khan of Paranpeela village.

"A case was registered and a police party left for Paranpeela to recover the kidnapped woman yesterday. The party was also accompanied by two relatives of the complainant to identify the kidnapped woman," the spokesman said.

The postmortem of the deceased civilian is being conducted and a fresh FIR was registered against the accused, the spokesman said, adding that efforts are on to identify the culprits and bring them to book.
