A 35-year-old man, fatally hit by a car in which a woman constable was travelling along with her friend, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital and was buried before a post-mortem was conducted.

The constable has been sent to Police Lines and a departmental inquiry ordered against her, Kanpur SSP Shalabh Mathur said today.

The incident occurred last week when the car, in which head woman constable of Anandpuri police station Varsha Srivastav was travelling, hit Madan fatally, he said.

Srivastav then took the victim to a hospital where he was declared dead. The victim's relatives alleged that the constable got him buried without getting a post-mortem conducted or informing local police about the accident, Mathur said.

The SSP said the body was exhumed yesterday and will be sent for post-mortem today.
