Man killed in rain-related incident

A man was killed after a tree, uprooted due to rain, fell over him in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.

The incident took place late last night in Matiyali village. A tree fell on 53-year-old Dharam Singh, leaving him badly injured, stateemergency operations centre said today.

He was rushed to a community health centre in Nogaon where he succumbed to injuries during treatment, it said.

Debris from landslides triggered by rain has blocked a number of roads in different districts. The Rishikesh-Gangotri highway is blocked at Dharali, Songarh and Dabriani.

However, the highways to Kedarnath and Badrinath are open to vehicular traffic.
 

Rishikesh-Yamunotri highway is open up to Jankichatti.

Nine motor roads are blocked in Uttarkashi district and elevn in Chamoli district.
