A 55-year-old man was killed and his relative injured after the roof of the second floor flat in which they were living collapsed last night in Paschim Vihar area of West Delhi.

The deceased has been identified as Pradeep Kumar while his relative, 29-year-old Vipin, is recuperating in a hospital.

According to the police, the two storeyed building was built in the early 1980s. The roof of the second floor flat was in a dilapidated condition and needed repair but it was ignored by the owner which lead to the mishap.

The roof suddenly caved in around 10 PM last night leaving Pradeep and Vipin trapped.

Police and fire officials were informed and both of them were rescued. They were rushed to a nearby hospital where Pradeep Kumar was declared dead.

The building belonged to Ashok Ganwani, a property dealer. Pradeep Kumar worked for him and lived in the second floor of the building.

"We have registered a case of death due to negligence in this connection and further investigations are on," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Ranvir Singh.
