A 60-year-old man was allegedly beaten and later shot to death over an election dispute in a village in Kurra area of Mainpuri district, police said here.

Mahavir, who was supporting one Bantu Yadav for the post of village head of Nagla Kathule was surrounded by one Kanhaiyalal Yadav and 10 others, who beat him with sticks and later shot him, they said.

Mahavir died on the spot.

The incident is a fallout of election rivalry as Kanhaiyalal did not want Mahavir to support Bantu, police said.

Four persons have been arrested in this regard and a country-made pistol recovered from them, they said.
