In a tragic incident, a 22-year-old woman was allegedly shot dead by her inebriated father after she tried to intervene in a fight between her parents on Holi here, police said today.
Rakhi was shot dead by her father Madhav Prasad Bahuguna in Maneri area of the district when she tried to stop him from quarrelling with his wife, Maneri police station SHO Deep Kumar said.
According to the SHO, Bahuguna picked up a quarrel with his wife after he returned home in an inebriated condition on Holi evening.
On seeing the fight turning violent, Rakhi intervened which enraged Bahuguna who opened fire at her, the SHO said.
The bullet tore through Rakhi's eye killing her on the spot, he said adding, Bahuguna has been arrested.
