The accused, identified as Golu Jhille, was arrested for killing the 20-year old woman after she resisted the rape bid, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Manoj Rai told reporters here.
The incident occurred in a rented room of the woman in Pancham ki Phel area here, he said.

The woman, a native of Balaghat district, had worked with Golu in a multi-level marketing company. She later left the job and was currently working at a coffee shop.
Rai said Golu owed Rs 13,000 to the woman. When she called Golu asking her money, he called her to a park to hand over the cash.
When she met Golu, he insisted that he would return her the money at her house, following which they both went to her room, the officer said.
After reaching her room, Golu tried to force himself on the woman and when she fought back, he stabbed her multiple times with a knife before strangulating her with her dupatta, the officer said, adding that Golu set the woman's body on fire before locking the room from outside.
He then fled to Ujjain but was apprehended with the help of police there.
"A case has been registered and further investigation is underway," the ASP added.
