The police arrested a 35-year-old man for killing his mother and critically injuring his wife after a family dispute at a village in Howrah district today.
Mehraj Mullick first hit Feroja Begum (65) with a sharp weapon and then his wife when she tried to intervene in the quarrel which took place in his house at Altara village in the Amta police station area, the police said.
Begum was taken to a local hospital where she was declared "brought dead", while Mullick's wife was admitted to the same hospital in a critical state.
