A man allegedly shot dead his maternal uncle here with the help of a friend and cooked up a story that they were attacked by their rivals.

The accused have been identified as Kamil and Anis, both aged 30.

The incident took place near Shyam Lal College in Shahdara on November 14, police said today.

Kamil with help from Anis shot Shakir Ali while they were returning to their village in Ghaziabad in their car after shopping.

"The accused then cooked up a story that four of their rivals in the village came on two bikes and fired on them while they were returning back to the village. They said Shakir was killed in the firing," said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajendra Singh Sagar.

But the victim's brothers raised doubts over the version, after which police interrogated the duo, who broke down and owned up their crime, he said.

The two accused shot dead Shakir and gave the gun to their other accomplices. The accomplices then fled the spot on bikes.

Sagar said the accused had hatched the plan to implicate their rivals in the village.

He said further investigation is in progress and efforts are being made to arrest the other accused and recover the weapon.
