Ankit Sharma was arrested from Paschim Vihar in west Delhi on Saturday for allegedly beating to death Ashish Dixit with a wooden stick on May eight night in an underconstruction building in Uttam Nagar.

V Renganathan, Additional Commissioner of Police (West), said Sharma suspected that he had developed illicit relations with his mother as his father remained ill for a long period.

"Dixit did not stop visiting his house despite several warnings to him. On May eight when he saw Dixit coming out of his house, he took him to a nearby under construction house. He hit him with a wooden stick," he said.

Dixit, who used to sell readymade garments in weekly markets, and his mother who died recently became friends with Sharma's family sometime back. After his mother's death, Dixit shifted to Rohini but frequently visited Sharmas.

Sharma works as a storekeeper at a mobile shop in Paschim Vihar Delhi which was closed about 10 days back.

"At present, Sharma is jobless. He is married but his wife left him," Renganathan said.
