Man mowed down by container

A 40-year-old pedestrian was

knocked down by a loaded container on the Mumbra bypass, police said today.

The mishap took place last evening, API Maruti D Sawant of the Mumbra police station told PTI.

The victim, identified as Riazuddin Shaikh of Kausa Mumbra died on his way to the hospital, he said.

The driver of the container--Babubal Kushal Prasad (26)-- fled the scene soon after the accident but was later arrested.

Based on a complaint by Shaikh's wife, police have registered an offence under sections 304(A), 279 of the IPC and also under section 134(a)(b) of the MV Act.

A Toll Naka operator at Mumbra was also booked for failure to regulate and divert traffic on the by pass and also for not putting proper traffic signages.
