Man on scooty run over by DTC bus

A 27-year-old man, riding a scooty without a helmet, was mowed down by a DTC bus this morning in southeast Delhi's Lajpat Nagar area.

The deceased, Dileep, was a resident of Defence Colony and belonged to Rajasthan. He used to stay alone here, police said.

He worked in a private job and was on his way to work when he was hit by the DTC bus route number 425 on Lala Lajpat Rai Marg opposite Honda showroom today around 10.30 AM, said a senior police officer.

He was hit from behind and was thrown off his scooty, the officer said.
 

The impact of the accident was quite severe and the youth was thrown from his scooty and sustained severe head injuries, following which he died on the spot, said the officer.

He was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead and his body has been preserved at a mortuary for post-mortem.

The accused driver managed to flee from the spot and police teams have been formed to nab him, the officer said.

The bus that hit Dileep plies between ISBT and Kalkaji Extension.

Police is investigating whether the accused was over- speeding at the time of the accident.
