A 27-year-old man absconding for over three years after allegedly raping a minor girl was recently arrested by the Mumbai police from Delhi, an official said Monday.

Mohammad Nisar Shamshad Khan had broken into a house in suburban Ghatkopar in March, 2016 and had allegedly raped the girl and fled with Rs 40,000 cash and gold worth Rs 60,000, an official said.

A case of rape and theft was registered at Ghatkopar police station at the time and, as part of the probe, police had also visited Uttar Pradesh to nab Khan, he said.

Mumbai Crime Branch's Unit VII, which was conducting parallel investigation in the case, recently got a tip-off that Khan was working at a bank in New Delhi.

"A trap was laid and he was nabbed. He was brought to Mumbai and has been handed over to Ghatkopar police for further action," the official said.
