A local court has sentenced a man and his parents to life imprisonment for killing his wife for dowry and then secretively burying her body.

Additional District Sessions Judge Rajbir Singh convicted the victim's husband Shazad, father-in-law Shamshad and mother-in-law Imrana of murder, according to a government counsel.

The victim, Shamshida, was poisoned to death by her husband and in-laws for failing to fulfil their dowry demands at Chapar village in December 2010. They buried her body in a graveyard without informing anyone. Police registered a case following a complaint from the victim's brother Khursheed.

Shamshida's body was exhumed and the post mortem showed that she died of poisoning, according to prosecution.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5000 each on the three convicts yesterday.
