A goldsmith allegedly poisoned his wife and their three-year-old daughter before consuming harmful pills in their house at YSR Nagar in Vizianagaram town today, the police said.
G Saibabu (28) and his daughter G Lasya Priyanka died in the incident while his wife Aswini is battling for life at the government hospital, the police said.
The police said that Saibabu, a drunkard, who suspected his wife of infidelity, allegedly poisoned her and their daughter, after which he tried to end his life.
According to the police, Saibabu, a native of Regidi area in Srikakulam district married Aswini from Vizianagaram town around four years ago.
The police said that Saibabu came to Vizianagaram town and had been staying at his in-laws' house along with his wife and daughter.
However, Saibabu did not take interest in his profession, turned a drunkard and started suspecting his wife of infidelity.
Today afternoon, Saibabu allegedly laced their lunch with some poisonous chemical, used in gold polishing. He also consumed poison when his in-laws were away from home.
His daughter Lasya Priyanka died at home while his unconscious wife Aswini was shifted to the government hospital, where her condition is said to be critical.
Sub-inspector of police Krishna Kishore registered a case and an investigation is on.
