A man posing as a senior Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officer allegedly hoodwinked government officers to pay him a Rs 2.5-lakh bribe to clear allegations pending against them, ACB sources said here today.

Based on credible information, an ACB team led by DSP K Ramakrishna Prasad raided a room in a private hotel in which the fraudster S V S N Bhaskar was staying and arrested him, sources said.

Bhaskar, who is a native of Kakinada in East Godavari, checked into a private hotel on October 4 and called up Village Revenue Officers of Agnampudi and Mandal Surveyors of Gajuwaka as well as Yelamanchili, sources said.

He informed them that he is a senior legal advisor to the ACB and threatened them by saying that corruption cases are pending against them, sources said.

Later, Bhaskar claimed that he could save them if they were willing to bribe him. He demanded Rs 1.5 lakh from Village Revenue Officers and Rs 3 lakh from surveyors, sources said.

ACB officials are investigating the case.
