Man returning from 'Ram Leela' show killed in road accident

A 42-year-old man was crushed to death by a speeding SUV near Kanhaiya Nagar Metro station in northwest Delhi.

The incident took place around 2 AM yesterday when Jokhu Prasad, along with his family members was, returning home after watching 'Ram Leela' organised at a nearby place.

Police said that Prasad, a labourer, lived in a rented accommodation in JJ Colony of Wazirpur area with his brother and cousin.

"As Prasad, along with his brother and cousin, reached near Kanhaiya Nagar Metro station, the driver of a speeding SUV, which was coming from Gurgaon side, suddenly lost control and hit Prasad from behind. The car was being driven by Sukreet Singh (23), the son of a businessman in outer Delhi," said a senior police officer.
 

The officer said that after hitting Prasad, the speeding SUV also damaged vehicles parked near the accident spot.

"After the incident, Sukreet along with his friend tried to flee the spot. However, locals managed to nab them and handed them over to police. As per medical examination, the accused was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of accident," he added.

Police said Sukreet's father had recently gifted him the SUV and yesterday, he along with his friend went to Gurgaon for getting the vehicle's registration document.

"We have arrested Sukreet and booked him under appropriate section of the IPC and further investigation is on," he added.

After the incident, locals went on rampage and damaged some vehicles parked near the accident spot and blocked roads for a few hours.
