:The death of a private firm worker, admitted to a private hospital here for shoulder pain after he injured himself playing cricket, led to tense moments today with his parents and relatives demanding action against the doctors for alleged negligent treatment.

Police said 22-year-old Thangaselvan was admitted to the hospital on January 18, following complaints of spain in the shoulder after he injured himself while playing cricket and was operated on that day itself

However his parents and relatives said they found him lying unconscious in the hospital.

Police said Thangaselvan was shifted to a private Ortho Hospital to treat other complications, where he was declared dead yesterday evening.

Alleging that Thangaselvan had died due to wrong diagnosis and treatment at Ortho Hospital, his parents and relatives demanded stringent action against the doctors and hospital and refused to accept the body after post-mortem, police said.

Since the man's father is a trader in Karamadai, the traders association there sought a compensation of Rs one crore to the family and the arrest of the doctors concerned.

Meanwhile, Dr C Rex of Rex Ortho Hospital, in a release claimed that Thangaselvan was operated on for shoulder problem, but had an injury to his chest previously. This was rectified by arthroscopic shoulder procedure.

In the immediate postoperative period, he developed fits and was subsequently shifted to higher center for further evaluation and treatment, he said.

"He was treated at another private hospital and was in ICU for last three days for the same but unfortunately his general condition became worse and expired yesterday.

We have requested for an autopsy to find the cause and evidence for any preexisting medical illness which has led on to this problem," Rex said.

Police said the parents and relatives later received the body.
