The Palghar district police today booked four persons, including a senior police official, for allegedly abetting suicide of a man from Virar.

Amit Jha, who consumed poison on January 20, yesterday died at a Mumbai hospital.

Jha is the brother of Vikas Jha, who had tried to set himself ablaze in November last year inside the office of a Deputy Superintendent of Police, police had said.

Amit Jha had alleged that police did not take any action in the case involving his brother and hence consumed poison.

A senior police official said a case under relevant section of the Indian Penal Code was been registered against four persons including the Police Inspector of Virar police station Yunus Shaikh for abetting Amit Jha's suicide.

Two persons were arrested in connection with the case, he said, adding a probe was on.
