The director of a city-based production firm has sought anticipatory bail in connection with a case of cheating filed against him and two others by yesteryear Bollywood actress Saira Banu.
Banu has alleged that Suresh Kurpad of Samra Productions and two others duped her husband, veteran actor Dilip Kumar of Rs 4 crore.
"Court today granted Kurpad interim protection from arrest till the next month," said prosecutor Iqbal Solkar. The hearing on the anticipatory bail plea would continue.

According to Banu's complaint with suburban Khar police, Kurpad promised her of getting sponsorships of Rs 7.41 crore for an event where Kumar's autobiography was to be launched.
He also presented a sponsorship certificate of Rs 2.4 crore from a company and emailed her a bank slip claiming that the sponsor had deposited Rs 3.98 crore in her account.
But, police say no money was deposited in her account and the sponsorship certificate was fake.
The police today told the court that they had not yet decided the future course of action and the investigation was going on, so the pre-arrest bail should not be granted to Kurpad.
