The sessions court today convicted a 45-year-old man for sexually assaulting his stepdaughter and sentenced him to six years' imprisonment.
The assault took place between January and March this year. According to the prosecution, just after the victim's father died, her mother married the accused and they moved to Mahim in western Mumbai.
Further according to the prosecution, the incident came to light when the girl shouted while she was being sexually assaulted by her stepfather in March.

The girl's mother was suffering from tuberculosis and died in February. Even after her death, the man continued to sexually assault the victim.
The maternal aunt of the victim filed the case against him when she learnt about the incident. He was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSP) Act.
The prosecution examined many witnesses in the case but what bolstered the case was the girl's testimony in the court. The court accepting the prosecution's case sentenced the man to six years' imprisonment.
In another case, the court today convicted three persons for raping a minor and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
According to Chembur police, one of the accused was in a relationship with the girl. When she left her house with him, all the accused raped her.
Although the girl refused to identify the accused in the court, the prosecution relied on the medical and scientific evidence to prove the case.
The court accepting the prosecution's case convicted the accused and sentenced all of them to life imprisonment.
