Metropolitan Magistrate Jagminder Singh sentenced Rajesh to six months simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 for the offence of causing grievous hurt to his brother-in-law, Anil Kumar.

"I have heard both the parties and considered facts and circumstances of the case. Keeping in view the theories of punishment and the nature of the offence, the convict is sentenced with simple imprisonment for a period of six months and with a fine of Rs 2,000," the magistrate said.

The court passed the order on a complaint of Sadh Nagar resident Anil Kumar who said that on the morning of March 23, 1998, while he was on his way to work Rajesh, along with another person, accosted him near Palam Colony and forced him to go with them to a nearby police post.

He said that when he resisted, Rajesh punched him on the nose and broke it.

The counsel for the convict had sought leniency from the court on the ground that he has two minor children, old parents and a wife to look after and he is the only earning member of his family.

The counsel had also said Rajesh had not been convicted before had clean antecedents and had faced trial for over 12 years. PTI HMP
