A man who claimed to be a lawyer was today sent to police custody till July 11 by a local court for allegedly forging one of the orders of the Calcutta High Court.

Bikash Singh who was arrested by the city police yesterday after it was asked to file a status report on investigation in the case by the high court, was remanded to custody by additional CMM Samir Ranjan Pal.

The CMM refused Singh's bail prayer.

The public prosecutor prayed for police custody of the accused for investigation in the case of forging an order of Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Indrajit Chatterjee of the high court stating that the two judges had never sat together in a division bench.

Appearing for the complainant, counsel Phiroze Edulji opposed the bail prayer and submitted that this was the second case of forgery of a high court order against the accused.

In the first case, Singh was on bail for alleged forgery of Justice Sanjib Banerjee's order, Edulji said.
